Blog

A few comments on one of my blog posts here at BusinessToInvestments got me thinking today about why some people succeed and some fail.  There are a lot of reasons that could contribute:  better education, emotional IQ, strong marketers, luck, hard work, family connections - you name it.  But I think the line between success and failure is just 6″ wide.

That’s how long the average brain is.  And that’s what really makes the difference.

In other blog, we were talking about why so many make a few hundred dollars from Internet Marketing and then just quit.  My buddy Rob Fore (www.CashByChoice.com) would tell you that’s outstanding and now go do 1000 sites like that.  If you could get a site up a day (and you can using his templates) and you really could average a few hundred per day - by the end of the 3 years, you’d be making a $200,000 PER MONTH.

Rob’s goal is 1000 sites and making just 50 cents per day.  Do the math on that one and I’ll get back to you.

That was my point as I talked back and forth with Beta J.  Then another person commented that he’s seen exactly the same thing in networking marketing.  People will start, make $100 or so and then just quit.

I tend to hang out with business owners so my perspective is very skewed when it comes to that.  To be honest, I can’t understand how someone would start any venture and immediately make $100 or more and then quit.  The average business doesn’t turn a profit for 3 years!  And that’s only after you’ve invested money, time, energy and all your friend’s and family’s money as well, most likely.

So if Internet Marketing or network marking gives you the ability to make a few hundred a month right off the bat, with little cash outlay, who wouldn’t love this?

And that’s when Beta J answered the question.  You know wouldn’t love it?  Employees.  That’s because being a business owner of any type means a lot of uncertainty.  There is no clear path.  The market changes.  Competition changes.  Your employees quit, or worse, quit and steal your clients too.  And most of all, being a business owner means you can NOT quit.  I know people who flit from job to job, quitting with no real forethought because someone looked at them wrong.  But you simply can’t do that if you’re a business owner.  You have to hang tough and get through it.  And you have to make decisions on sometimes nothing more than gut reaction.

The problem with Internet Marketing and with networking marketing is that they are BUSINESSES, not jobs.

And that means that you need a business owner’s mindset to make it work.

Success or failure?  It’s up to you…or rather, it’s up to your mindset.
