If you have a business and a website, chances are one of your goals is figuring out how to get people to your site. There are two ways to get traffic: organic (people find you) and paid traffic.
I came into my online tax education business (TaxLoopholes) almost as an after thought. I wrote a book (”Loopholes of the Rich”) in 2001 and someone mentioned that it would probably be a good idea to have somewhere to send the people who would want to contact me. Out of that, TaxLoopholes was born. Well, actually it was originally called TaxCents. (Get it TaxCents - makes sense) Then the “loopholes” theme took hold and TaxCents became TaxLoopholes. It’s funny how things evolve over time. And sometimes it’s nice to reflect on “How did I get here?”
I’ve been through a half dozen revisions of the TaxLoopholes website in that time. In fact, I think it is exactly 5 revisions in 7 years.
So, for me, this is what an Internet business is. In the past year, I’ve learned so much that there are times when I feel like my head is going to explode. TaxLoopholes has horrible SEO. I hired, and paid, a lot of money for our last revision and was told these guys really know what they’re doing. And I’ve found that they haven’t kept up. Plus I found that I was paying WAY too much for what I did have.
In the next few weeks (well maybe another month) I’m going to launch a brand new site, with a new, better thought out branding name. TaxLoopholes isn’t going away. But it is, over time, going to change. A loophole is edgy. It’s cutting edge. And for a lot of people it’s way too risky and out there. Besides, not a lot of people want to get branded with “tax loophole” during the coming administration. Some do, and for those, TaxLoopholes will be there. For others, the new site will be there - a more helpful, easier to access site.
And that still is just a tiny fraction of what is possible. Even as I’m writing this blog, I’m thinking about all the affiliate marketing tips I learned from Rob Fore. (www.CashByChoice.com) These are tips if you want to start an affiliate business but also if you want to maximize the website(s) you already have. I’ll be buying key words soon through affordable channels that Rob recommended. Plus I’m going to look for optimum key words for what I do and make sure I’m targetting those key words in my articles and blog posts.
If you have a business, you need a website. If you have a website, there may be more that you could do to maximize it. And if you don’t have a business or a website, you can get both with Affiliate Marketing.
