What Stops You is Not What You Think

It’s almost been a year since a partnership dissolution pushed me out of my safe, secure little shell.  In the meantime, our family has moved to the beach and at times, it has felt like we’re surviving more than thriving, but at least we’re not diving.  LOL   The struggle, like most struggles, has been more emotional than anything tangible.

I’ve re-evaluated my businesses and my son has had to re-evaluate his charity.  The charity, Thunder Mission, was a real lifeline to him.  It helped him with the survivor guilt he experienced as he saw friends who never had the chance at adoption murdered, raped and “disappeared” on the dangerous Juarez streets. There were times in the past few years where I think he might have gone insane without that outlet.  A series of events coincided with my major business change and he’s had to re-examine this charity as well. There were times that my mood has been dark and that came through, I know, in my posts.

In every case I can remember, it was my reaction to the unfair way I saw adults treat David and his charity.    I guess that’s part of being a parent - you want to protect your child.  I don’t know if I feel it any more strongly than any other parent does, but it does seem so unfair.  This poor kid has been through hell already and now he has bullies trying to take advantage of him.

Anyway, that’s what has happened this past year and it has nothing, and everything, to do with this project.  The emotional issues take me off purpose and I keep coming back to my “need to focus” posts because it’s what gets me back on track on the things I can control.

So, what have I discovered in the past year?  There are a dozen (or more) ways to make money on the Internet.  You can start completely brand new businesses with separate income streams, like with affiliate marketing.  You can find new ways to market your business.  You can create social networks.  You can vent (like I do here).  You can expound, report, change, reflect and become a totally different person if you want.  And you can take a stand, like I did here and on www.TaxLoopholes.com, about the way you want everyone to work and play in your space.

But NONE of it happens if you can’t get out of your own way.  EQ (Emotional Quotient) IS more important than IQ, when it comes to success.  Sigh.  Looks like I have another project underway, only this one is on me.

Gosh- I was just vaguely thinking this morning about life with kids, and how it changes everything. :-)

I just read this list of 28 items (see link). It’s supposed to be about domaining, but the scope goes way beyond that. Lots of the same general issues that we all have pondered and continue to ponder.
