Since my entire $1 million in 2 years or less project is based on websites and landing pages, I’ve had to learn a lot about websites. No, I’m not going to become a programmer, but I need to know how to talk to them. I’ve paid as much as $100,000 for a website and learned later that it should have cost, in US dollars, about $30,000. Outsourced from Argentina, it would have probably cost less than $20,000.
I was talking to a friend of mine this past week who is launching a major website. They’re probably going to be going with Jorge at LatAmConnect in Argentina as well. But the thing that got me was when I was complaining about how much I paid for a past website, my friend said (meaning to comfort me) “Well, that was how much it would cost 5 years ago.” I didn’t want to tell him that it wasn’t 5 years ago - it was just last year.
Oh well, live and learn. There are a lot of canned solutions these days that have brought the price WAY down and give you a lot more in options when it’s time to find an online merchant account.
If you’re building a website, shop around…a lot. The big ticket costs for website design just aren’t necessary in today’s market. Plus by going outside of your neighborhood, you’re likely to get fresh perspective and innovation that takes your site to a whole new level.
