It’s Niche Products, Not Marketing to Niches

I have been reading so many articles on SEO, internet marketing, blogging, you name it, that I can’t even keep them straight.  But, my HUGE ah-ha this week was that many people are getting “The Long Tail” wrong.  It’s not marketing to niches, so much as creating niched products.

Otherwise, you market to just a small market that even if you make a fantastic product with good profit, you go broke.  That’s because unless you have a WHOLE LOT of these little niches (like Netflix, for example) you simply don’t make enough money.

It goes right along with the Canadian making $3 + change per website per week. If you have a couple of websites, that’s not going to pay the bills.  He’s got 300,000 and that’s what makes it work.

The riches are in the niches, it’s just that you might need more of them that you thought.
