What I Need to Understand and What I Need to Do

Blog

One of the problems that I see business owners run into again and again is making a distinction between what they need to UNDERSTAND and what they need to DO.

For example, I need to understand how to read a financial statement, but I don’t have to know how to DO a financial statement (ie, debits and credits and all that).  I need to understand how to talk to a web programmer, but don’t need to know HOW to program a website.  I need to understand what SEO, trackbacks, tag clouds, blogs, forums and the like are.  But I don’t need to do most of it.  (I do post to the blog and the forum, because I love doing it.)

I’m in a steep learning curve right now about Internet marketing, SEO, etc… but I’m learning so I can assess and make smart decisions, not so that I know how to program.
